Day 1 - Dubai

I'm writing this a day late because I was just too worn out from the 16hr plane ride and exploring Dubai all day to do anything but sleep when we got back to the apartment.  Dubai is an incredible place full of people from all cultures whether it be native Arabs, Indians, or Europeans. From bathing suits to burqas you can see just about any type of attire. I had researched proper ways to act in Dubai before our visit and it seemed there were all too many regulations, but when I arrived it was apparent that they were much more relaxed. Although, running a red light can result in a black mark on your license and a impoundment of your vehicle for 6 months, it's alright to wear shorts...which was a main worry of mine.
The infrastructure is awe-inspiring and the power of the Sheikh is unbelievable. The ability to order the construction of your own man-made island is something that only a select few can claim throughout the world. The Burj Khalifa, Burj al Arab and the Palm Jumeirah island have all achieved worldwide fame all due to the plans and finances of the Sheikh. He rules over quite a successful global industry powerhouse and keeps crime to a minimum although there is a large underground network of illegal activities.
One thing that I was really looking forward to was seeing supercars absolutely everywhere and that's just not the case. Dubai is split into two portions with a creek as a dividing line. Deira is older Dubai and is lacking in the splendor of that which is downtown, AKA Bur Dubai. I suppose if we would have spent more time in Bur Dubai I could have witnessed more mechanical marvels, but as it was I only experienced vehicles that could be seen in any major metropolitan area of the US.
Sorry if this post is all over the place but these are just some of the major things I noticed in my short time in the UAE. Oh, another thing is that Arabs absolutely LOVE taking selfies and always seem to have selfie sticks on their person. It's not just young women either, we saw men as old as their mid-40's wielding them.
